A VISIT TO THE ZOO
Poem composed
By Olawuyi Taiwo
A VISIT TO THE ZOO
Remember, once like you
Dope dreams in the past
In the humid forest of the jungle
Hopping from tree to tree in the past
The champions of the jungle
Abiding on the tree
Before things fell apart
Here, being caged
My movement restricted
Being fed with a bunch a day
Threw to me
Because of my fierceness
They think I no longer belong
They dark; am dark
Why the oppression
What makes the difference?
Freed but caged
Strolling but restricted
Can fend but like a hen
Oh! What a world
Some revealed, some hidden
Bombarded with life philosophies
But deeply confused
The Heaven shedding its tears
The same smiling but scorning
To human fierceness
Some claiming cabals
In the helm of affairs
Are destroyers of exuberant economy
Though not only in the space
Annihilation it is
Even in the sanctuary
